Legal Assistant

Miss Mackenzie Scheer was raised in a military family and grew up traveling the globe. She most recently lived in Rwanda, Nepal, and Kyrgyzstan, where she graduated high school. Choosing the beautiful weather and the proximity to her stateside family, Mackenzie decided to attend college in Florida.

Mackenzie graduated from Rollins College, summa cum laude, in 2023.  She double-majored in Spanish and International Relations with a minor in Ethics. During her undergraduate career, Mackenzie received multiple awards for outstanding academic achievement and was granted membership into Phi Beta Kappa, widely accepted as the most prestigious honor society. Knowing she wanted to pursue a career in the legal field following her time at Rollins, Mackenzie took several courses on legal topics, her favorite being the Philosophy of Law. In addition to her focus on academic excellence, Mackenzie was a member of the Rollins crew team and served as Vice President of Membership Experience for Alpha Omicron Pi.

After graduation, Mackenzie managed a team of lifeguards at Universal’s Volcano Bay to develop her customer service and leadership skills. At the start of 2024, she traded her swimsuit for a pair of heels and a blazer and began working as a Legal Assistant at the Coye Law Firm. There she dealt with many different practice areas but specialized in Workers’ Compensation. Through her hard work and dedication to the legal profession, Mackenzie was quickly promoted to case manager where she handled over 70 workers’ compensation cases at a time. The more experience working in the legal field that she acquired, the more her passion and excitement for working in law increased.

In the summer of 2024, Mackenzie relocated from Orlando to Tampa and has since fallen in love with this city. During her spare time, she enjoys walking her two dogs, Tigger and Bubba, on the Tampa Riverwalk, scouring downtown for new restaurants to give a try, and frequenting the gym for some hot yoga sessions. That same summer, Mackenzie started working with Joel as his Legal Assistant. From managing the calendar, to answering phone calls, to organizing internal files, Mackenzie assists Joel with whatever the firm may need.

Hoping to become an attorney herself in the future, Mackenzie plans to attend law school in the fall of 2025. Until then, she is happy to be a part of the team at Elsea Law Firm, P.A.
